Curriculum
We understand children begin their learning journey from the moment they are born, and the first five years of a child's life are vital for development and their experiences through these early years help establish their core values, sense of identity, and self-worth. We believe parents and families are a child’s first educator and our role as Teachers and Educators is to facilitate a collaborative and supportive approach throughout your child’s developmental and learning journey.
Our educational curriculum supports enquiry and play-based learning opportunities in natural and responsive environments. Our Early Learning programs are designed to provide child-led, intentional teaching and guided play learning opportunities that are guided by the children’s interests and strengths.
Our curriculum supports connections with our community, as the children engage in regular In-service Learning Sessions, and regular excursions, including Bush Kinder (for our funded Kindergarten Childre). All our In-Service Learning Sessions and Excursions are planned to enhance the children’s learning, our educational programs and strengthen our community connections.
- Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which is based on the fundamental belief that children’s lives are characterised as “Belonging, Being and Becoming”.
-
Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF)
which identifies five learning outcomes for children that we strive
toward:
- Children have a strong sense of identity (IDENTITY)
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world (COMMUNITY)
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world (COMMUNITY)
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing (WELLBEING)
- Children are confident and involved learners (LEARNING)
- Children are effective communicators (COMMUNICATION)
Our educational curriculum is informed by the following two approved learning frameworks:
Incursions and Excursions
Planned incursions are organised throughout the year to enhance the educational programs and increase learning objectives. These may include, but are not limited to: Farm Animal visit, Australian Reptiles show, Rabbit / Chicken Life Cycle Program, How to approach dogs, Road Safety … to name just a few.
AWELC engages external providers to run both a dedicated Sports and a Music Program across the year.
Children will experience learning opportunities outside the Centre as well, such as going to the local playground, exploring the local neighbourhood and the surrounding parkland. Family members are encouraged to volunteer on excursions – the more the merrier!
